Race Horse Ownership

Well if you love horse racing, be it watching it on the TV, or enjoy going racing, there's no better way to enjoy the thrill of ownership than having a horse in training.  The fun and enjoyment doesn’t just involve the race day itself.  You can visit our stables at Graebar Park or come to Mornington Racecourse and watch your horse in training, meet the jockeys and staff who keep the whole show on the road, and even help plot future races and plans for the horse.

Most importantly, if you have a horse in mind you would like to buy either at the sales or in a private transaction, I'm always available to discuss your requirements. I attend all the major yearling sales in Melbourne and interstate each year.

If you haven’t the patience or time to wait for a yearling, I'm a keen  and experienced judge of blodstock and form, and I have the contacts in place to spot horses with potential that can meet almost every budget - from a fun horse to run at your local track, to those with the the right make up for the big metropolitan race meetings.

On the day of the race you will be filled with pride as your colours are ridden to the start - yes, as an owner you can have the fun of choosing and registering your own dedicated colours, which stay with you while you have any horse in training. You receive free entry at every racecourse where your horse is running with race day privillages (members passes and mounting yard passes) for each owner, and a dedicated owners and trainers bar to celebrate after a race with a drink. Some courses even give you a spot of lunch or discounted deals on entertaining.

So it’s a great day out at the races, but it's almost an all year round experience apart from when your horse goes on its well earned holidays...they need a break just like the rest of us.

SOLE OWNERSHIP

The most common and probably easiest form of ownership, you do incur all of the costs but as for the glory and the winnings, that all belongs to you.

PARTNERSHIPS OR SYNDICATES

Part of the fun of going racing is taking friends or family, and it’s not only a fantastic day out, but also a clever way to spread the costs of ownership.

Buying part shares in several horses (as opposed to whole horses) also diversifies your investment in thoroughbreds, and provides more race days, more fellow owners to socialise with, and a greater opportunity to 'get a winner'.

Each horse can have up to 10 'owners' listed in the race book (who receive race day privileges), and those owners can be individuals or be a registered 'syndicate' (which allows up to 20 people per with syndicate).

You all share the fun, excitement, costs, and (depending on your luck) the prize-money .

Please read our 'Horses Available' section to see what horses we currently have available for ownership / purchase of shares.

Further information about ownership, syndicates, the 'Owners Gold Card' and much more, can be found here at the Racing Victoria web site.
